The paper sends Gary to save a man, John Hernandez, from getting killed in a road accident. After doing that, the paper changes and it states that Hernandez is going to kill Rachel Stone, the prosecutor who sent him to prison. Gary can't help but wonder why the paper sent him on such an errand. Gary then goes to the courthouse to stop Hernandez; Hernandez gets away and Gary is arrested and brought to Ms. Stone. When he tries to warn her about Hernandez; she doesn't believe him because Gary won't reveal the source of his information. Hernandez gets away by knocking Chuck out and taking his car. While Gary waits at the hospital, the paper now says that Hernandez is going to try again this time at her home. Gary goes there and gets him and Ms. Stone taken as hostage.

It seems that years ago when Roscoe was in the Army, his friend, who is also black was the C.O. of a unit and one of the men in his command's Gorman. Gorman's a bigot, who didn't like being ordered by a black man. Eventually the tension between the two men reached it's breaking point when Gorman tried to kill Roscoe and his friend, while he killed his friend, Roscoe survived and testified against Gorman, who would be sent to prison. While in prison Gorman became head of a white supremacy group, and now he is after Roscoe.

Dr. Larry Chambers (Gregory Harrison) helped build the colony on the Janus Five. He and fellow scientist Amanda Harper (Kimberly Huffman) run computer simulations that show the planet's star will flash over in a matter of days, emitting waves of deadly radiation, so Dr. Chambers urges evacuation. This is not a popular recommendation, especially among the colony's leaders who include council chairman Franklin Murdock (William Atherton), security head Montgomery Bennett (Alan Scarfe) and Amanda's father, Ian Harper (Ken Pogue). They point out that Chambers has been wrong before - the colony had to be moved at great cost after he warned of deadly volcanic activity - and suggest that his judgment has been clouded by the death of his wife Elise. When that doesn't stop Chambers, Murdock and Bennett discredit him by falsely accusing him of being one of the aliens who originally inhabited the planet.
Homicide: Life on the Street

Bayliss suffers from a recurring dream about the Adena Watson, his first homicide case and one that remains unsolved. An elderly man comes to the Homicide unit to confess to Bayliss that his father had committed a murder 66 years ago. Falsone is assigned to the case, only the case file is missing and found to be in the possession of retired homicide detective, Thomas Finnegan. Gee allows Finnegan's request to participate in the reopened investigation. Questioning the elderly man leads to the recovery of the gun that might close the case. Falsone, Finnegan, Lewis and Kellerman celebrate their potential victory as Bayliss recontemplates the Watson case.
