Ian and Cal discover an underground gnome lair. In the end, it is revealed that Cal intended to become a gnome. Phillips, a student that once escaped the school, is revealed to be "Redfang", a creature haunting the woods. He is also the leader of a mysterous group hiding in the wild who will save as many students they can from becoming gnomes.

Natsu runs off to find Jellal, determined to not let him meet Erza. Erza hears the name "Jellal" and sets off by herself without the others knowing. Racer's personal guild, Harpyia, tries to stop Natsu, but is easily defeated. Hibiki explains about the power of Nirvana - the people in between the power of light and darkness switch to the opposite element. The people of light who feel powerful negative emotion fall into darkness. Fearing that Wendy, who blames herself for reviving Jellal, would fall into darkness as well, Hibiki knocks her unconcious. Meanwhile, Sherry, who feels that Gray has caused Lyon's death, has fallen into darkness, and knocks Gray unconscious. Hot Eye is also affected by Nirvana, and teams up with Jura. Ren heads toward the light, but Midnight, who begins to hunt the magicians, gets Eve as his first victim.

Adrianna rents a mansion and decides to throw a housewarming party complete with an ice skating rink and elves. All is great in Adrianna's world until Victor decides to reveal Adrianna's secrets to the media. Annie decides to skip the party so she can take care of Liam, which leads to the two of them rekindling their old romance in Dixon's bed. Ivy's reconciliation with her father doesn't go quite as she planned. Teddy and Ian discuss their feelings and decide to keep their relationship quiet for the time being, unaware that Dixon saw them share a kiss. Meanwhile, Navid and Silver share their feelings and realize they both feel the same way. Naomi returns home from the party to find an unexpected visitor.
